Ramona Quimby, Age 8
by Beverly Cleary, Tracy Dockray
Reading level: Ages 9-12

Ramona feels quite grown-up taking the bus by herself, helping big sister Beezus make dinner, and trying hard to be nice to pesky Willa Jean after school. Turning eight years old and entering the first grade can do that to a girl. So how can her teacher call her a nuisance?

Ramona isn't my favorite, even though I do know some kids that inhale these books. But in my class it has been a mixed response. Ramona is pretty sassy on occasion. It isn't so bad that my daughters don't read Ramona, but the stories are a little ho hum. The updated covers on the new editions have seemed to foster some interest for my students though.
