This book is a must-have for any child who really loves trains.  At first, it may look a bit wordy, a bit lengthy for a child without a long attention span, but my son adored it.  It covers the history of trains -- from modern diesels to the earliest protoypical steam locomotives -- as told by a boy who's had engineers in every generation of his family back to his great-great-great-great-grandfather.

In addition to covering trains, the obvious attraction, this book is also good for introducing a child to the idea that he or she has ancestors beyond those he or she interacts with, like parent and grandparents.  This story might just spur some incipient genealogical interest for your bright and inquisitive little ones.
