I really want to like this book, as it is about Christmas and trains, and those are two things that my son loves very much.  Unfortunately, I find that this book is so long and wordy that it doesn't make a very good bed-time read, and it tests his atention span (and mine, honestly).

Also, the character of Great Grandma Blue is a little scary.  It's pretty clear from the story that she's a witch -- she casts a magic spell -- and the little boy in the story is a bit scared of her.  Also, there's a sequence where a train is derailed by a tornado.  A little instense for little train enthusiasts.
