I use this book at the beginning of the year when we are building our classroom essential agreements about behavior. The kids always relate to Chrysanthemum. Kevin Henkes writes with warmth and sensitivity. His stories always ring true without being overly preachy.

My kids and I both love all of Kevin Henkes's books.  They definitely speak to a certain independant, individualistic spirit that I am glad to encourage in them.  If anyone knows of any authors with a similar oevoure, I'd love to hear about the,
